Objects in Motion
Directed, Written, and Choreographed by: Callan Mitchell
A snapshot of five teenage girls navigating the intensity of their competitive dance season. As they train, each girl grapples with profound questions about their artistic and intellectual growth: Are we real? How do we befriend our biggest competitors? What is acceleration—like, really? The play delves into the existential dread of being a teenage girl in the performing arts, exploring how they search for meaning, connection, and their place in both the universe and with each other.
I had the honor of originating the role of Lauren in the debut production of Objects in Motion in Fort Worth, Texas. We worked on this show for three weeks straight—rehearsing, learning the dances, and even helping build the theater. Watching the space and the show transform before our eyes was amazing. I truly love this story, and Lauren is one of my favorite characters I’ve ever played. This story highlights how being a teenage girl in the performing arts affects mental health. A few months later I got a call saying that Objects was coming to my hometown, New York City at the Brooklyn Art Haus and I would reprise my role as Lauren.
All profits from this production were donated to the Tarrant County Women’s. Over 2,000 dollars was donated!
